4th International Conference - Melbourne 2003

Accommodation

Dear potential delegate

This is sent to you to help you get the best out of MAAOE 2003. All prices are in Australian dollars (AUD).

This site is provided to enable you to make an appropriate decision about where to stay based.

Conference Accommodation

Most hotels in the vicinity of the conference and other activities are quite expensive. There are three reasonably priced accomodation venues that will need to be booked relatively early. These are:

  • Naval and Military Club
  • City Centre Private Hotel
  • Ibis Hotel

The conference accommodation will be centred on the Naval and Military Club. As the map below shows, this facility is located within a 15 minute walk from the conference venue. The conference dinner will be held at the Naval and Military Club. The Club has three billiard tables, two squash courts, a small business centre, two bars, and a modest gym. In that facility are 24 rooms (price includes full cooked breakfast – prices quoted are as of March 2003):

  • 15 single ($115)
  • 5 twin (two delegates can share for $150)
  • 4 double (two very friendly delegates can share for $150)

The Club will be holding these rooms until May. If they are not booked by that stage they will be released for non-MAAOE patrons of the Club.

Across the street from the Naval and Military Club is the City Centre Private Hotel with far more modest facilities (shared showers) with rooms for $42 and $47. Within five minutes in several directions of the Naval and Military Club is a selection of five star hotels.

You can stay elsewhere, but most other places nearby are quite expensive. There is a train station adjacent to the Club and trams / streetcars pass nearby.

    Important Facts about Bookings

    • Naval and Military Club – please email directly (enquiries@nmclub.com.au), state you are from MAAOE and provide your credit card details. There are only 24 rooms available and they have all been block reserved for MAAOE delegates. These will go fast and after May they will be released to non-MAAOE patrons of the Club.
    • City Centre Private Hotel – fax your details to +61 3 9650 7256 (tel and fax). These rooms are under demand so book early.
    Conference Venue

The conference proceedings will take place at Dallas Brooks Hall. All rooms are within the same area. Outside is a large park to get exercise during breaks.

Walking from the Naval and Military Club to Dallas Brooks Hall takes 15 minutes following tree-lined roads and through the Fitzroy Gardens. This walk takes you past the Victoria Parliament Buildings, St Patrick’s Cathedral and other sites of interest.
